Vikram Bhatt and Wife Arrested in ₹30 Crore Biopic Scam Allegation by Rajasthan Police

Vikram Bhatt and Shwetambari Bhatt were taken into custody by a joint Rajasthan-Mumbai police team after Dr Ajay Murdia filed a complaint alleging that the couple cheated him of ₹30 crore. The funds were meant for a biopic on his late wife and other film projects, which reportedly never materialized. Vikram Bhatt has denied the allegations, calling the FIR misleading and claiming some documents are forged.

Vikram Bhatt

Vikram Bhatt  a Bollywood filmmaker of great experience and reputation is the one who has been directing the hits like Raaz, 1920, and Ghulam that are all thrillers and horror films. He has done a lot of things in his career of over 30 years, he has been a director, a writer, and a producer, besides that he has also made a couple of web series recently that are very popular too.

The dispute started when Dr. Ajay Murdia, who is the founder of Indira IVF, was approached by  Vikram Bhatt to make a movie about his deceased wife. Murdia stated in the complaint lodged at the Bhupalpura police station that he had been assured of a total of four films, including the biopic, and the deal had a value of ₹47 crore. Although it was reported that some initial work had been carried out, the rest of the films were never made.

Murdia claims that Bhatt and his wife took over ₹30 crore pretending it was for film production while in fact, they used fake invoices, inflated vendor bills, and forged salary documents. The police inquiry brought to light the initial evidence implying that several documents were tampered with to mislead the investor.

Arrest and Police Actions

A joint venture of cops from Rajasthan and Mumbai, on December 7, 2025, resulted in the kidnapping of Vikram Bhatt and his spouse, Shwetambari Bhatt. It was alleged that Bhatt’s family had some connection with the location from which the couple was taken, which was a residence on Yari Road, Mumbai. The pair was already being monitored through a lookout notice, which prevented them from leaving India until the case was resolved.

Rajasthan police have requested a transit remand to bring the couple to Udaipur for additional interrogation and legal matters as per reports. The authorities are looking into the money movement, project contracts, and financial activities that are associated with the alleged fraud.

Vikram Bhatt’s Defense

Vikram Bhatt has denied the charges and labelled the FIR as “deceptive.” He asserts that some of the papers put forth by Murdia are fake and casts doubt on the credibility of the fraud allegations. Bhatt pointed out that the complainant had worked together on previous films and that the issue could be a contractual one rather than fraud.

Moreover, he has expressed that he is ready to provide complete assistance to the police and supply all the needed papers to demonstrate his non-involvement in the crime. Bhatt’s defence team asserts that there is no intentional attempt to cheat the complainant and that the matter should be viewed as a legal disagreement over film production contracts.

According to the reports and evidence provided by PTI, Vikram Bhatt has always maintained that the allegations against him were false. On Sunday, the couple’s lawyers, Rakesh Singh and Sanjay Singh claimed that the couple had been taken into custody without following the proper legal process and then threatened, and they got them to sign a paper. The Udaipur police’s investigation has revealed that the accused had drawn up false documents with the aim of deceiving and defrauding the complainant of crores of rupees. It is alleged that the accused stole around ₹30 crore from Murdia.

Details of the biopic agreement, money made, and project deliverables will be crucial to the case in the current investigation.
