Veteran actor Pankaj Dheer, best known for his portrayal of the warrior Karna in B.R. Chopra’s iconic TV epic Mahabharat (1988-1990), passed away on October 15, 2025, at the age of 68. Dheer had been battling cancer for a long time, and despite undergoing major surgery, the disease relapsed a few months ago, leaving him critically ill.

An official statement from CINTAA (Cine & TV Artistes’ Association) confirmed the news, stating, “With profound grief and deep sorrow, we inform you of the passing of our Trust’s erstwhile Chairman and CINTAA’s former Hon. General Secretary, Shri Pankaj Dheer ji, on 15th October 2025. The cremation will be held today at 4:30 pm, next to Pawan Hans, Vile Parle (W), Mumbai.” 

A Legacy in Indian Television and Film 

Pankaj Dheer’s portrayal of Karna in Mahabharat had a lasting effect on Indian television. His character was revered for its depth and complexity, earning him admiration from fans and peers alike. Dheer’s legacy extends beyond this iconic role; he also appeared in films such as Saugandh (1991), Sadak (1991), Sanam Bewafa (1991), Soldier (1998), Baadshah (1999), Taarzan: The Wonder Car (2004), etc. and television shows like Chandrakanta (1994-1996),  Zee Horror Show: Anhonee (1997) and Sasural Simar Ka (2011-2012), etc. Additionally, he directed the film My Father Godfather (2014) and founded the Abhinay Acting Academy in 2010, contributing significantly to the Indian entertainment industry. His son, Nikitin Dheer, is a popular face in Bollywood and has portrayed the roles of antagonists in films like Chennai Express (2013) and Sooryavanshi (2021).
