Popular comedian and YouTuber Samay Raina is once again in legal trouble. This time, it’s because of some hurtful comments made during his online talent show called India’s Got Latent. The Supreme Court of India strongly criticized him for making jokes about people with disabilities. The judges said his comments were “dirty” and “shameful,” and reminded him that freedom of speech doesn’t mean you can say anything you want without thinking about others.
The controversy started when Samay, along with fellow YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, made fun of a contestant with a disability. The video clip quickly went viral, and many people were upset. Several police complaints (FIRs) were filed against the show and its creators. In response, Samay took down all episodes of India’s Got Latent from his YouTube channel. He also said he was overwhelmed and would fully cooperate with the investigation.
What made things worse was a joke Samay made during a comedy show in Canada, where he seemed to mock the whole situation. This angered the Supreme Court even more. The judges warned him that making fun of the legal system was not acceptable.
Now, the court has asked the Indian government to come up with clear rules on online content. They want to protect freedom of speech, but also make sure that content shared online respects society and doesn’t hurt anyone.
This case is a reminder to all online creators: with freedom comes responsibility. Comedy should be fun, but it should also be respectful. Let’s hope this incident encourages more thoughtful content in the future.
