Relive Bollywood’s Golden Era: Cult Classics Return to Theatres This Valentine’s Week

This Valentine’s week, Bollywood fans and retro cinema lovers have a special treat in store. National Film Archive of India, under the National Film Heritage Mission, is set to re-release some of Indian cinema’s most iconic films in theaters with upgraded picture quality. These restored classics, in glorious 4K, guarantee that magic of timeless love stories and evergreen songs will be back once again on the silver screen.

The re-release will begin on February 7 with Amitabh Bachchan’s Silsila, a love triangle featuring Rekha, Jaya Bachchan, and Shashi Kapoor. Yash Chopra directed the film in 1981, and it is particularly known for some of its evergreen songs such as Dekha Ek Khwab and Yeh Kahan Aa Gaye Hum by the legendary duo Shiv-Hari. The movie is sure to reignite the charm of its emotional narrative and iconic performances.

This Valentine’s Day, February 14, movie buffs can watch the late Sridevi’s hit film Chandni again. Yash Chopra directed this 1989 love story, which starred Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna with Sridevi. People know Chandni as one of the top-earning movies of its era loved for its gripping plot stunning shots, and Sridevi’s knockout acting.

Then, on February 21, PVR and INOX screens will show Raj Kapoor’s Awara. This 1951 crime drama featuring Raj Kapoor, Nargis, and Prithviraj Kapoor, ranks among the best Hindi films ever. Its wide appeal and powerful story make it a film you shouldn’t miss.

To end this old-school movie trip, Rajesh Khanna’s Aradhana will play in theaters on February 28. NFDC has restored this 1969 classic to 4K quality. With unforgettable performances and songs, these old yet classic films wonderfully capture the essence of romance, and remain dear to many people.
