Rakshita Reacts to ‘Sarke Chunar’ Row, Compares Backlash to ‘Choli Ke Peeche’: “Why the Selective Outrage?”

Amid massive backlash against Nora Fatehi’s Sarke Chunar, director Prem’s wife Rakshita questions why older suggestive songs escaped similar criticism.

Rakshita reacting to the controversy surrounding Nora Fatehi’s “Sarke Chunar” song from KD: The Devil.

The song “Sarke Chunar” from the upcoming film KD: The Devil, which stars Nora Fatehi and Sanjay Dutt, has recently landed in controversy over its allegedly suggestive lyrics. The track faced its first criticism from social media users who called the song vulgar and inappropriate right after its release. The public reaction to the song reached a tipping point because multiple people called for its removal from circulation.

Reports also suggested that complaints were raised regarding its content, which created a new debate about the appropriate limits for sensual themes and double-meaning lyrics in film songs. The public and authorities became interested in the ongoing dispute. Reports show that people filed complaints against the song, and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) sent a notice to the film’s makers because of concerns about obscenity and its potential effect on social norms or young minds.

Rakshita Defends Prem Amid Backlash

Rakshita, who is both an actor and the wife of director Prem, used social media to respond to the ongoing criticism that she faced. She disclosed that multiple individuals had tagged her in their posts, which contained critiques of the song and raised doubts about the director’s artistic decisions. Rakshita explained her understanding of audience rights to express their views about artistic works, which she described as creative content. She defended her husband by stating that judging a filmmaker based on one disputed song constitutes an unfair practice because creative choices belong to the broader narrative development process.

“Why the Selective Outrage?”

Rakshita has questioned the reason for Sarke Chunar receiving extreme backlash because older songs with identical suggestive content had achieved complete acceptance. Rakshita made her statement by questioning what she considered to be “selective outrage.” She showed that Indian movies have included numerous songs that contain both double meanings and sensual elements throughout their history. She explained that audience reception to “Choli Ke Peeche,” “Dreamum Wakeupum,” and “Peelings” was positive at their time of release, but present audience response to Sarke Chunar shows excessive intensity and unnecessary backlash . She argues that the discussion needs to examine track record violations instead of focusing on a single song. Her remarks initiated new online discussions about how audience preferences have transformed and how social media influences current movie content evaluation.

Rakshita also defended her husband, director Prem, by protecting his professional standing. She argued that judging a director’s entire filmography based on one disputed musical track constitutes an unfair assessment. According to her, creative professionals often experiment with different styles, and one track should not determine their credibility or artistic value.
