Priyanka Chopra Jonas, the global icon, has once again returned to her singing roots, but this time reinterpreting the song “Last Christmas,” a holiday hit by Wham! from 1984, in a distinctively Indian style. The song will be a part of the movie Christmas Karma, directed by Gurinder Chadha, which is all set to release worldwide on November 14, 2025. The newly composed song by the duo will be an exciting blend of Christmas nostalgia and Indian instruments, and the song in a different language thereby promises a very different version of the song that more or less has the same sound over the years during this holiday season.
The song is considered to be Chopra’s first big singing project in years after having sung in international singles like In My City and Exotic. Her return to music is indicative of her versatility as well as her passion for collaborating and bringing together Indian artistry and global sounds.
About the Film and Collaboration
Christmas Karma is a Bollywood-style British Christmas reimagining of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol in present-day multicultural Britain. The character of Mr. Sood will be played by Kunal Nayyar, and his adventure to get back in favor with God will be led by three spirits, representatives of Christmas past, present, and future.
Musical superstars such as Billy Porter, Pixie Lott, Boy George, Nitin Ganatra, Danny Dyer, Hugh Bonneville, and Billy Porter with Eva Longoria, among others, come together for the album, with Priyanka’s track being one of the album’s highlights and the one that the artist speaks about further. Her statement about the collaboration goes as follows: “Gurinder has always given priority to stories of the diaspora, and I’m glad to be her little support. I hope this Indian flavor of a classic song resonates with people all over the world.”
Chadha, known for directing Bend It Like Beckham, also considered it a great fortune that Chopra was involved and pointed out the fact that George Michael’s estate had definitively agreed to the restructuring of the song.
The release of Christmas Karma in the UK by True Brit Entertainment is set for 14 November 2025 to level up the Christmas spirit even more.
A Cultural Celebration
Priyanka’s interpretation of “Last Christmas” is no less than a cultural unification and fusion in the form of music. The song with Hindi lyrics, Indian rhythms, and the warmth of Christmas cheer is a perfect example of East-West unity and is indicative of the ever-changing nature of global pop culture’s identity.
The partnership has led to the duo of Chopra and Chadha showing again that stories and songs are not limited to one country, and thus they are giving us the art of celebration that is both local and universal at the same time.
