It’s time for rapper Honey Singh to face the heat from Indian courts after podcaster Ranveer Allahbadia and stand-up comedian Samay Raina’s controversial stunt that skooked the courts earlier this year.
Neetu Chandra, who previously worked as an actress in Akashay Kumar starrer ‘Garam Masala,’ has filed a PIL (Public Interest Litigation) against Yo Yo Honey Singh for his latest song, ‘Maniac.’ The public interest litigation also mentions other collaborators in Honey Singh’s latest song, ‘Maniac,’ alleging the song objectifies women as ‘sex objects’ in the music video.
The PIL’s hearing is set for later this month; that names rapper Yo Yo Honey Singh, singer Ragini Vishwakarma, singer Arjun Ajanabi prominent for Bhojpuri songs, and lyricist Leo Grewal.
What’s in The PIL Petition?
In the petition, Chandra claims the Maniac song “portrays overt sexualisation” where women are portrayed as sex objects. Additionally, she added that the song uses the regional language Bhojpuri to “normalize vulgarity.” The Yo Yo Honey Singh song, which is a chatbuster hit, is full of lyrics that sexualize women, thus throwing “women’s empowerment out of the window.”
In a latest interview, Chandra said, “The song is encouraging people who have an evil eye towards women.” Further she added, “Why did those lines have to be in Bhojpuri? It’s because we Bihari’s don’t say anything or object to them. Let them play with our language, it’s like it has no respect.”
Most Bhojpuri commercial films overtly sexualize women, and the music videos are filled with women objectified as sexual beings. In fact, most Indian films from Bollywood, Tollywood, and Bhojpuri objectify women from storylines to music videos. So, when it comes to PIL, most of the item songs and their lyrics should also be included in the petition.

However, now the actress-turned-producer is all set to fight against Yo Yo Honey Singh’s song for its lyrics that downgrade women.
