In the wake of increasingly widespread reports misrepresenting the content of his recent interview, Karan Johar took to Instagram to clarify his position with respect to his Homebound remarks. Besides pointing out the incorrectness of the interpretation of his statement, the filmmaker also said that the original statement was made during an academic discussion about the film industry.

Misquoted Comments Sparked Confusion
Johar asked for sympathy from both the media and the public and stated that his words should not be taken as a wish for Homebound on its success. In other words, he explained that it was an academic discussion about the business of films. The director also made it clear that he is and always will be very proud of this project and the way it was creatively carried out.
Reaffirming Pride in Homebound
Homebound, according to Karan Johar, is one of the “finest and most sensitively directed Dharma Productions films”. He also mentioned that the team is planning and working hard to take the film to reach a wider audience in both the domestic and overseas markets. Johar expressed his faith that the film is gaining popularity, referring to the gradual rise in the number of people coming to see it in the various parts of the world and the growing global recognition.
A Universal Vision for Indian Cinema
While committing to telling stories that resonate beyond national boundaries, Johar pointed out that Homebound is a film that marries emotional Indian storytelling with a global, cosmopolitan audience. According to Johar, it was a statement not only of his pride but also of his resolution in bringing glory to Indian cinema on worldwide platforms.
Homebound, directed by Neeraj Ghaywan, premiered at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival this year before having its Indian theatrical release on 26th September. Martin Scorsese has been associated with the film as an executive producer, and it is also India’s official selection for the Oscars. Earlier, an allegation was pumped up on Dharma Productions that they had given more screens and shows to their other release, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, a typical Dharma romcom, which got released just one week after the universally acclaimed Homebound. The debate sparked when Ghaywan shared an Insta post regarding the same. Now Karan Johar comes to his defence, saying that his words have been misinterpreted, and he stands by Ghaywan’s film wholeheartedly.
