Recently, actor Janhvi Kapoor shared details about her challenging period after her first movie, Dhadak, was released in 2018. In her podcast interview with Raj Shamani, the actor shared that the public success of the film brought her personal pain. She explained that her depression began after the movie launched because public criticism became too much for her to handle. Janhvi believed her professional life ended because she thought people did not enjoy her acting at that time and was just sympathetic because of her mother. The young actor found it difficult to handle emotional burdens from entering Bollywood while everyone watched her every move.

Coping With Loss and Public Expectations

Janhvi’s debut performance happened within three months of her mother, legendary actor Sridevi, passing away. The loss deeply impacted her emotionally while she was simultaneously navigating the pressures of launching her film career. Janhvi explained that she had always sought validation from her mother, and after her passing, she subconsciously began seeking that approval from the audience instead. She became preoccupied with negative feedback when the public response did not match her expectations of complete approval. This mindset, she said, contributed to her feelings of depression during the early days of her career.

The Story Behind Her Debut Film

Dhadak marks the first Bollywood film debut of Janhvi Kapoor, which she starred in with actor Ishaan Khatter under Shashank Khaitan’s direction. The romantic drama produced by Dharma Productions was a Hindi remake of the Marathi film Sairat. The film released in July 2018, which achieved commercial success, introduced both actors to mainstream audiences. Janhvi disclosed that her personal success from the film’s box office performance got overshadowed by the emotional challenges she faced during the production period.

Learning to Handle Criticism and Grow

Janhvi also puts light on  an important lesson about public opinion throughout her life. She realized that complete acceptance from everyone is unrealistic, especially in the film industry. The actor started to direct her attention toward professional tasks instead of listening to critical remarks about her work. Her new perspective on life assisted her career advancement and helped her develop confidence as an actress.

Moving Forward in Her Career

Since her debut, Janhvi Kapoor has established her career in the film industry through her work in multiple significant roles since her first performance. The actress has built her reputation as a versatile performer through her work in various film genres. Janhvi now looks back at her past experiences to explain how her initial difficulties helped her develop better mental strength to handle negative feedback and public observation. They proved that mental health is very important even if you are under nepotism influence; the harm that negative comments cause is beyond any luxury or opportunity, so people should be very cautious about what they put forward on the internet because you never know what might cause certain harm to someone.
