2024 is seeing a new kind of craze among fans, especially on social media. From celebrity worship to influencer worship, the internet has shifted its devotion towards social media influencers.
Ranveer Allahbadia, the founder of the YouTube channel ‘BeerBiceps,’ has a massive following online, consisting of 10.2 million followers. His massive following comes from different social media streams like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
His fans follow his podcasts and reels as entertainment or for lifestyle tips. Among these fans are devoted followers who expressed their love for the influencer. These fans hang on to each word of the influencer and devotedly watch each of his podcasts and shorts.
One such fan of Ranveer Allahbadia, Rohini Arju, shared videos and pictures of the influencer confessing love for the influencer. These videos show her worshiping Ranveer’s picture, saying, “Swami, I’ve waited lifetimes for you,” while performing Karwa Chauth rituals.
The video shows her dressed like a bride celebrating Karwa Chauth with all the rituals, and she even has his name tattooed on her shoulder. She is seen saying in the video, “Many people may mock me and make fun of me for this. Some people may label me as crazy and delusional. But I love you beyond time, space, and eternity, Ranveer Allahbadia.”
Don’t you think this utter devotion borders on psychotic and problematic behavior? How far does love turn into an obsession? Some fans feel the fan is using these videos to gain engagement in the name of the influencer. While others criticize her actions as creepy.
Whatever might be the case, the keywords “Ranveer Allahbadia” rapidly spiked on Google Trends around Sunday because of the incident. Do you think these kinds of videos help increase engagement for the influencer or his fans?
Or do you feel these kinds of behaviors can influence others to behave similarly, resulting in something more catastrophic in the future?
