Diljit Dosanjh is touching new heights with each role he is taking on, whether it’s as a singer, pop sensation, or actor. The Punjabi singer-actor won his first Filmfare ‘Best Actor OTT’ Award for his role in and as Amar Singh Chamkila.
Amar Singh Chamkila also stars Parineeti Chopra, Kulwinder Kaur, and Nisha Bano and is directed by Imtiaz Ali. The movie was released on the OOT platform Netflix on 12th April 2024 and is a biographical tale about a Punjabi musician, Amar Singh Chamkila.
So, it is a film based on a Punjabi musician, Singh, who rose to regional fame for his voice, and his role is played by another Punjabi musician, Dosanjh, who is killing it with his voice and music in 2024.
Dosanjh is already crushing it with his Dil-Luminati Tour across the globe and in India, where all his tickets got sold out in minutes. This Punjabi sensation has created a buzz across the world with his collaborations with artists like Ed Sheeran, SIA, NLE Choppa, and Saweetie. It seems Diljit isn’t stopping any time soon with his music or acting career.
The Filmfare OOT Awards 2024 were held on 1st December in Mumbai, where 39 nomination categories were awarded. While Diljit won for best actor in a Web Original Film (Male) for Chamkila, Kareena Kapoor Khan won best actress in a Web Original Film (Female) for Jaane Jaan.
The Best Series award went to ‘The Railway Men,’ and the Best Actor, Comedy Series (male), was awarded to Rajkummar Rao for ‘Guns and Gullabs.’ Manisha Koirala won the Best Actor, Series (Female), for ‘Heeramandi: The Diamond Bazaar,’ and Gagan Dev Riar won the Best Actor Series (Male), for ‘Scam 2003: The Telgi Story.’
