Bollywood music in recent years consists of songs highlighting alcohol, drugs, women, and materialistic goods. Whether it’s singing in front of imported cars in foreign lands with scantily clad women or glorifying alcohol and drug usage through song lyrics. However, the government has never taken action against these objectionable lyrics by Bollywood singers.
In a recent development, Diljit Dosanjh was hit with a Maharashtra government restriction notice on his Dil-Luminati Tour. This notice asks the singer to not sing songs mentioning alcohol, drugs, and violence. This advisory was previously issued to the Punjabi Superstar before his concert in Hyderabad, Chandigarh, and Ahmedabad.
Diljit addressed the notice to his fans, promising a concert that’s double the fun despite the restrictions. He said, “You don’t worry about it. The advisory is for me. I will make sure that you have double the fun than you expected.” However, that didn’t stop the singer-actor from taking a dig at the government for its hypocritical stance on the singer’s concert.
Several singers and music producers have written and glorified alcohol, drugs, and violence in their songs. Additionally, most movies in India glorify female objectification, violence, and patriarchy, yet these movies aren’t slapped with restrictions.
The songs are also not objected against, so when Diljit Dosanjh’s concert gets slapped with a restriction notice, it shows the government’s hypocritical stance in the entertainment business. The singer also shared the same in a metaphorical statement: “…When Sagar Manthan happened, the amrit was taken by the Devtas, but the poison was taken by Shiv. But Shiv also did not consume that poison; he held it in his throat. So I have learnt that life and the world might throw poison at you, but you should never take it in you. That’s what I have learnt. Don’t let your work suffer. People might stop you, but you should not let yourself get bothered from inside. Enjoy; have fun.”
He ended his take on the advisory with Pushpa’s viral gesture and dialog, “Aaj jhukega nahi.” Thus expressing how nothing can stop him from making the concert memorable for his fans.
