Producer Firoz Nadiadwala of Base Industries Group has produced some of Bollywood’s most legendary laugh riots and masala entertainers, be it Hera Pheri, Welcome, Awara Paagal Deewana, Deewane Huye Paagal or Aan: Men at Work. Now, he’s aiming for much higher. With his recent announcement, Firoz has plans for a grand ‘Family Universe’ that will not only relaunch classic franchises but also spin them out into sequels, prequels, and even crossovers. Besides this, he’s also working towards his enormous mythological venture, the Mahabharata.
The Family Universe of Comedy Films
Comedy is at the centre of Nadiadwala’s vision. He wishes to have a family universe where cult classics such as Hera Pheri and Welcome return with brand-new avatars. The intention is to restore the fun with prequels, sequels, and crossovers, while keeping the movies’ family-friendly and clean image intact. The films will once again provide the same over-the-top humour that fans absolutely loved. Crossovers, in which characters from various comedy franchises encounter one another, add more excitement to the ‘Family Universe’, guaranteeing new interactions while taking advantage of nostalgia.
Sequels of Comedy & Action Films
Nadiadwala is also planning to include the sequel to his action film, Aan: Men at Work (2004), along with his other comedic endeavours like Awara Paagal Deewana (2002) and Deewane Huye Paagal (2005). All of these movies will receive sequels or spin-offs individually. The nostalgia element is present here-reviving these old franchises enables Nadiadwala to target both die-hard fans and a new generation seeking Bollywood spectacle.
Mahabharata in the Making
But perhaps the most daring of his projects is a movie on the epic Mahabharata. This, unlike the comedy and action pictures, would be a big-scale historical epic-something that has been attempted very occasionally. Nadiadwala’s dream project is beyond mere entertainment, and it is more historical and cultural in nature, blending genres within a grand tent.
Firoz Nadiadwala’s ‘Family Universe’ is turning out to be Bollywood’s most ambitious venture so far. From rib-tickling comedies to action franchises and even a mythological extravaganza, it’s an idea that goes all out to unite everything under one umbrella and adds a new dimension to Hindi Cinema. But with such huge expectations, the real challenge would be to top the cult status of films like Hera Pheri and Welcome while making the new versions as fresh and contemporary as possible. If executed properly, this universe may revolutionise our conception of interlinked narration within the Hindi Film Industry. The ‘Family Universe’ and all other productions of Base Industries Group hope to provide the audience with a broad spectrum of entertainment.
