Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj in the film Chhaava, capturing the grandeur and legacy of the Maratha Empire.

Rashmika Mandanna and Vicky Kaushal starrer Chhaava released today and this larger-than-life film is a treat to behold. Chhaava director Laxman Utekar has done a great job capturing the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj and the grandeur of the Maratha Empire in the film. While Vicky Kaushal as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj captured the conflicts and burden of his father, Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj’s legacy in the film beautifully.

Rashmika Mandanna shines as Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s wife and so do other actors like Ashutosh Rana, Vidya Dutta, and Pradeep Singh Rawat. The cinematography of the film with grand sets and action sequences makes it a solid release of 2025. However, the pace of the film is a bit lengthy and could be limited to create a perfect cinematic experience.

Akshay Khanna Overshadows The Leads In Chhaava

The film also stars Akshay Khanna as Aurangzeb, who has created a buzz with his phenomenal acting. While you might think the star of the film Chhaava is Vicky Kaushal who without a doubt beautifully portrayed the larger-than-life character of Sambhaji Maharaj, however, one cannot deny Akshay Khanna’s Aurangzeb. As the role fits him like a glove, it feels like the character is crafted just for him.

From his styling to his makeup, Akshay Khanna has embodied the character of the Mughal Emperor with his expressions and skillful acting. The dreaded ruler of the Mughals comes to life under Khanna’s skillful touch.
