Awarapan 2 Shoots Begin: Emraan Hashmi Kicks Off The Sequel Shooting

The sequel to the cult classic Awarapan (2007) has commenced its shoot. The first schedule is going in full flow in Bangkok. It stars Emraan Hashmi and Disha Patani in the lead roles.

Emraan Hashmi’s Awarapan 2 Begins Its Journey

Nearly two decades since the original Awarapan (2007) was released and turned into a cult favourite, Emraan Hashmi is back as Shivam in the sequel Awarapan 2. Directed by Nitin Kakkar of Filmistaan (2014) and Ram Singh Charlie (2020) fame and written by Bilal Siddiqui, the film is being produced by Vishesh Bhatt under the banner of Vishesh Films. The production begins its journey, with the first schedule happening in Bangkok, where the mahurat shot recently took place. Along with Hashmi, it also stars Disha Patani in the lead role with Shriya Saran and Salil Acharya reprising their roles from the previous instalment.

Fans have been asking for this sequel for years, and with this announcement, their patience is finally paying off. The first film has already drawn attention for balancing nostalgia with fresh narrative elements through its multiple viewings on OTT and satellite. To make it even more exciting, the team has locked 3 April 2026 for its global theatrical release – adding one essential film to the audience’s bucket list next year.

What the Sequel Promises & Legacy Stakes

The original Awarapan was praised for its raw emotion, dramatic stakes, high-octane action, memorable music, and the hard-hitting climax. It carved out space in the genre of romantic action dramas with heartbreak and tragedy at its core. Now, Awarapan 2 is expected to carry that legacy forward – with more depth, matured conflicts, slick action and newer emotional arcs. The original’s cult status adds pressure: fans hope that this instalment doesn’t just relive nostalgia but raises the bar even higher.

Given Emraan and Vishesh Films’ track record of producing music-driven, intense dramas like Murder (2004), Gangster (2006), Jannat (2008), Murder 2 (2011), and Jannat 2 (2012), expectations are sky-high. There’s already buzz about how the sequel will balance action, emotion, romance and character growth. With such high stakes, Awarapan 2 isn’t just a mere return on the shoulders of the original film – it’s a chance to redefine what makes a sequel worth watching.
