Anupam Kher, a well-established veteran Indian film artist who has worked for over four decades, recently sparked a debate after he voiced his dissatisfaction over not being invited to significant Bollywood roundtable interviews in a recent podcast interview. He has been involved in many big releases and practices directing, acting, and teaching, yet still feels excluded from one part of the media.

Kher has contributed to over 500 movies, numerous worldwide projects, and a successful acting school, plus a considerable presence in directing and producing, which all add up to his staying power in the industry. However, his latest comments show a lot of anger and disappointment due to the actors not being welcomed and, nevertheless, not being invited to the annual roundtable discussions of Bollywood that are held at the end of the year and are advertised widely.

Anupam Kher Calls Out Media Gatekeeping

As per reports,Anupam Kher was a guest on the Unfiltered with Samdish YouTube talk show and was very taken aback by the fact that the industry panels never considered him. He spoke out against the media, claiming that certain people decide who gets the exposure, and he is convinced that such decisions are not based on talent or experience but just preference or showing off. He went on to declare during the conversation, “Main acting mein in sabka baap hoon,” emphasizing that his authority and history in acting cannot simply be disregarded and overlooked.

Why He Feels the Exclusion Is Unfair

Kher mentioned that he runs an acting school called Actor Prepares, an institute he founded in 2005 in Mumbai, India, where he trains a lot of actors, and thus his credibility in the artistry is reinforced. And over the years he has motivated several new artists who have just stepped into the industry; he has personally visited and watched films in the theater as an audience member to share his audience perspective, indicating how passionate he is regarding the art of storytelling. However, he said that “mediocre actors” are taking over the roundtable discussion, which is concerning him. He noted that he had a talk with an editor about this unfair treatment, but even after that, invitations still did not reach him afterward.

His Recent Work Strengthens His Argument

The actor continues to be active in this industry with a number of film releases, such as Emergency, Tumko Meri Kasam, Metro In Dino, and his latest directorial venture, Tanvi The Great (2025). The latter was also one of the films screened at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which was a huge milestone for Kher. Such achievements, according to Kher, make his execution especially questionable.

A Larger Reflection on Bollywood’s Recognition Culture

Kher’s evaluation connects to a larger problem in the industry, which indicates how the spotlight is always on the latest upcoming or powerful personalities rather than experienced artists. His comments have it that, in the case of Bollywood, recognition is mostly determined by public relations circles and group preferences instead of by talent. This highlights the continuing discussion about favoritism, exposure, and genuine merit.

Anupam Kher’s criticism highlights the distribution of recognition in the Hindi film industry. It is not known yet if his remarks will lead to any transformation, but he has nonetheless made a statement that the quality of one’s art and the number of years one has put in should not be the basis of selective visibility, and media favoritism should not dictate who gets to be seen at the table.
