Alia Bhatt grabbed the chance to defend herself against the spreading rumors of a “botox gone wrong.” Just recently, she posted on her Instagram about the videos circulating claiming that she had suffered from a botched botox procedure. For Alia, the misinformation regarding her appearance was “damaging and exhausting.”.
And fueling the speculation was aesthetics expert Dr. Sai Ganapathy, who published a video breaking down Alia’s supposed botox effect. Not disheartened by her statements, Dr. Ganapathy responded to her as well by saying he intended his post to be medical and educational rather than personal and malign. He noted that some patients may have minor complications from aesthetic treatments-while, for instance, one side of the face may appear minutely asymmetrical-but such side effects are reversible. He said such efforts could spur public awareness of botox and similar procedures.
The doctor further adds that celebrities need to endure cross-examination, but that with such onslaught comes the lesson as well. With celebrities like Alia Bhatt speaking out or clarification of standards and treatments for beauty, the influence will silently weave a better-informed understanding in the minds of the young minds.
Public discourse about aesthetic procedures, more so public figures, should not be taken lightly because one crosses a fine line between awareness and speculative judgments. Is it time we rethink public discussions around cosmetic procedures?
