The Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar is, once again, getting ready for a big international partnership. As per the reports, the Hindi remake of a well-liked Korean thriller is under consideration with Korean producer Hyunwoo Thomas Kim. The project buzz resonated more when Kim announced that the talented filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh has the script already prepared.
As per sources, during a discussion, Kim told a major media outlet that he took the initiative to reach out to Akshay Kumar, who is in London currently, urging him to watch Korean films. “Just yesterday, I sent Akshay Kumar a message, telling him to look at a certain film that all in the industry are talking about. Sujoy Ghosh has already done the drafting. If Akshay gives his approval, we have a project to start working on,” Kim disclosed.
A Global Crossover in the Making
Hyunwoo Thomas Kim, who has produced Hindi remakes of Korean films such as Blind, Saakini Daakini, and Jaane Jaan, has been continuously connecting the two worlds of Korean and Indian cinema through the establishment of his company, Kross Pictures. By his way of thinking, new artistic paths are created, and filmmakers from India can then narrate Korean stories from the viewpoints of their country’s cultures.
In case the project comes through, then Akshay Kumar will be the one to portray the role that could transform his on-screen image the most. Kumar has done it with intense dramas, patriotic films, and even slapstick comedies, but the gritty Korean-inspired thriller could be a turning point in his career. With the combination of Sujoy Ghosh’s storytelling skills, which have brought us hits like Kahaani and Jaane Jaan, this partnership is bound to result in a highly engaging film experience.
The Evolving Trend of Korean Adaptations in Bollywood
Over the last few years, Bollywood has been gradually increasing the number of Korean remakes, with the audiences’ demand for high-concept thrillers and emotional dramas that are a reflection of the real world becoming more apparent. The participation of producers such as Kim has been essential in making it possible for the adaptations to remain true to the original while still being acceptable to the Indian audience.
In a previous interview, Kim expressed that India has vast potential to enhance storytelling through partnerships like this one. “India has a gigantic market, outstanding directors, and skillful actors, but we should just incorporate the writing discipline that the Korean film industry has mastered,” he stated. This mindset appears to be the reason behind his eagerness to work with Akshay Kumar and Sujoy Ghosh on the project.
What’s Next?
Even though the movie’s title and production details have not yet been announced, rumors from within the industry suggest that negotiations have neared completion. If Kumar is confirmed, shooting could commence in 2026. Meanwhile, the Asian movie-making and viewing services are looking forward to this alliance with mixed expectations, as it might bring different cultural narratives together and set a benchmark or just completely ruin the original storyline.
