The ever-popular TV show Anupamaa is now in the news for all the wrong reasons. After the tragic on-set death of Vineet Kumar Mandal, 32-year-old camera attendant, the All India Cine Workers Association has raised serious questions over safety measures.
AICWA Appeals to Maharashtra CM
AICWA has also written to Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Eknath Shinde, demanding immediate action against the makers of the show Anupamaa. The association has alleged that Mandal’s death resulted from electrocution due to negligence on the set. They have further demanded a compensation of Rs 1 crore for Mandal’s family and suspension of the show till a proper investigation is conducted.

Negligence Allegations
According to AICWA president, the production unit used electricity wires which were not in good condition and did not implement the safety measures on the sets. Although there was a terrible accident, it was said that shooting continued into late night and resumed the next day without paying much attention to the situation.

Demand for Accountability
In a letter, AICWA asked the CM to lodge an FIR under IPC Section 302, holding the producers, channel, and Film City authorities responsible for the incident. In addition, it sought a safety audit on all the sets to avoid such incidents in the future.

A Wake-Up Call for the Industry
It is with this tragic death of Vineet Kumar Mandal that the entertainment industry is reminded of the importance of safety behind the camera as well as in front. Demands by AICWA focus on stricter implementation of protocols in protecting such crew members who work tirelessly behind the camera.
We express our heart-felt condolences to the family of Vineet Mandal.
