In Bollywood, the retirement of actors has been unheard of in the past decades, especially male stars. You will see new actresses coming in and out of Indian film industries every decade, but the ‘heroes’ remain the same. Actors romance younger actresses every decade, but their standing in the industry is strong even with age.
So, when Vikrant Massey, a critically acclaimed actor who is at his peak in his acting career, announced his retirement from acting, fans were shocked. Vikrant had given a stellar performance back-to-back in the 12th Fail, Sector 36, and Sabarmati Express.
So, naturally, his fans expected him to keep up the momentum of his performance; instead, they got the shocking news of his retirement today. Massey, who is just 37, wants to ‘recalibrate and go back home,’ according to his post on social media.
He wrote, “The last few years and beyond have been phenomenal. I thank each and every one of you for your indelible support. But as I move forward, I realize it’s time to recalibrate and go back home. As a husband, father, & son. And also as an actor.”
He promised his fans 2 last movies in 2025 and ‘years of memories’ on his social media post with the ending, ‘Forever indebted.’ Fans were quick to comment, “Why would you do that.. ? There are hardly any actors like you. We need some good cinema.” Another fan wrote, “Bro you are at peak…why do you think like this.”
Some fans are wondering if this announcement is a publicity stunt for his upcoming movie. Whatever might be the case, the actor seems to be keeping the reason for this development under wraps. Or he wants to enjoy his fatherhood and family time and come back in better form with much better projects. His post also hints at this: ‘Until time deems right.”
So, what are your thoughts on actors taking early retirement in Bollywood at their peak? In fact, Jaya Bachchan and Kajol also took retirement from the industry at their peak, so what’s the big deal if an actor does the same?
